Pumpkin & Spice & Everything Nice: 7 Fun Fall Things To Do

Looking for something to do this fall season? Here are seven local and fun fall activities.

With pool days, warm weather and barbecues coming to end, the season of sweaters, camp fires, and leaves ushers in. Although this fall season is different from most with the COVID-19 Pandemic, students can still enjoy local events.

1. Fall Fun on the Farm

For $8 per person, Landess Farm in Daleville offers a hayride through a pumpkin patch, a small pumpkin and unlimited passes to its 10- acre corn maze. Only 20 minutes away from Ball State’s campus, tickets can be bought on the farm’s website for the event, which takes place Sep. 20 to Oct. 30, Sunday-Thursday from 10a.m. to 6p.m. and Friday 12p.m. to 5p.m. 

2. Albany Farmers Market

From crafts and jewelry to produce and baked goods, the Albany Farmers Market, located in Albany Park in Gaston, IN, has a lot of different items to offer. The final three outdoor market days are  Sep. 27, Oct. 4, and Oct. 11 from 2 to 5 p.m. Pumpkin painting will be available Oct. 11.

3. Muncie’s 2020 Yart Sale 

Want to shop for unique art pieces from the comfort of your home? Good news! The Yart Sale or Yard Sale for art, is virtual this year. Everything is under $40, making it an affordable way to purchase art to support local artists. The sale is from Oct. 1 to 15.

4. She Kills Monsters: Virtual Realms 

For fans of horror films and all things spooky, the dramatic comedy, She Kills Monsters: Virtual Realms is sure to put you in a fall mood. According to Ball State’s website, the virtual production written by Qui Nguyen and Directed by Karen Kessler,  tells the story of Agnes who finds her sister’s Tilly’s Dungeons & Dragons notebook. Agnes ends up in a world  of homicidal fairies, ogres and adventure. Tickets for the Oct. 29 to 31 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 1 2:30 p.m. showings are available in the box office or online

5. Pumpkin Trail and Glow 

During Artswalk, an annual event that celebrates art and culture in the Muncie and surrounding area, you can follow the trail of pumpkins and vote for your favorite pumpkin designs. On Oct. 1 from 5 p.m.to 9p.m., The Pumpkin Trail and Glow will have pumpkin carving competitions. Votes will be cast by anyone not entered in the competition and the winners will be announced on Facebook by noon Oct. 2 and will receive a $100 cash prize. 

6. Munsee Meats Fall Festival 

Are you a self-described foodie? The Munsee Meats Fall Festival is the place for you. From 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Oct. 3 at IN-332 N. 600 W. Yorktown, patrons will be able to enjoy food, pumpkins, and games. The festival will have freshly cut meats available at the Munsee Meats food truck, fall treats, lunch from Daddio’s Food Trailer, pumpkins to pick from, and a bounce house. 

 “This is an event to come out and enjoy our pumpkin patch and purchase some fall treats, pumpkins for decorating, and meat from Munsee Meats,” Social Media Communications Manager, Alexis Dishman said. 

7. Spangler Farms

Located at 8081 W. County Road 200 S. Yorktown, Spangler Farms offers farm fresh produce everyday until Halloween. The locally owned and operated farm also offers pumpkins to pick from, baked goods, and even fall decor items. This year, Spangler Farms is hosting a craft fair, complete with a lemon shake-up & italian ice stand, Sundays from September through October from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Stop by to pick up a pumpkin and sip on a sweet lemon shake-up.
