3 Events Coming to Muncie this Spring

  1. Rinard Orchid Greenhouse Plant Sale: April 24, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

If you’re looking to stock up on plants this spring, the Rinard Orchid Greenhouse Plant Sale is the event for you. The greenhouse, located on the southwest side of campus near Christy Woods, is a “living museum” that boasts 2,000 orchids, making it the largest university-based orchid collection in the United States.

The plant sale is a major fundraiser for the greenhouse, which provides free programs to the community throughout the year. This year, due to the coronavirus, the sale is a mix of online and in-person. It will be online on April 12 through April 23, and the remaining plants will be available at the in-person sale on April 24 from 9 a.m. to noon.

The sale will include succulents, hanging baskets, orchids, perennials, and more. For more information on the event, visit the Rinard Orchid Greenhouse website.

  1. Muncie Mystery: May 6, 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

DWNTWN Muncie is holding a large-scale version of the popular board game Clue featuring local businesses. The event will take place on Thursday, May 6 from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m, when participants will visit 10 different businesses in the downtown area to collect clues. The event will conclude at Canan Commons, where the mystery will be revealed and prizes will be drawn.

The game will begin at Dave’s Alley, where you can pick up a crime tracker and begin collecting clues. For more information on the event or to download the crime tracker, visit DWNTWN Muncie’s website.

  1. DWNTWN Muncie Car Show: May 22, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

In its first year, organizers of the DWNTWN Muncie Car Show are optimistic about its potential to draw crowds and cars from across the country.

The show will begin May 22 at 11 a.m. and end with awards at 8 p.m. Featuring classic cars and hot rods, live bands, food and merchandise vendors, a 50-50 raffle, and a swap meet, the event will pull together a large variety of car enthusiasts, businesses, and local organizations to serve the Muncie community.

The idea for the show began with car enthusiasts Troy Watters and Crystal Foust and grew into a partnership with DWNTWN Muncie.

“My goal in all of this is to give the community some fun things to do and family friendly events,” Watters said. “And then help the businesses too.”

The show is free to the public and all proceeds go to DWNTWN Muncie, Secret Families, and Home Savers.

Watters says that the show will follow

CDC guidelines during the event. More information about the event can be found at DWNTWN Muncie’s website.
