The Scarlet Ledditor

Our first online edition focuses on stories relating to the color red.

Red is the color of beginnings. It’s the color of the Chinese new year, of Mars, which is home to the first sign in the zodiac, Aries. It’s a primary color, often the first one people think of. And of course, it’s the first color in the rainbow.

It’s also the color of our first online edition for the semester. This fall, Ball Bearings will be exploring the colors of the rainbow and everything that comes with them. People, emotions, organizations, world issues, politics, identities, and more can all relate to the colors of our world.

Red is associated with love and passion, and with love and passion comes sex. We explore the sex-positivity movement with “Redefining Sex and Sexuality: The Importance of Kink Allies.” Our staff talks to kink-allied therapists about how partners can work together to have healthy and satisfying sexual relationships.

Red also means emergencies, medicine, and hospitals. We take a look at healthcare workers on the frontlines of the coronavirus pandemic with “On the Frontline,” highlighting their bravery. intelligence, and commitment to this new normal we all find ourselves in.

Being a natural redhead is an experience unique to 2% of the world’s population. We talk to ginger students about their experiences in “1 in 156 Million,” diving into the ways in which redheads are both praised and mocked for their unique look.

And of course, red is daring and bold. We speak to members of Ball State’s belly dancing club in “This Body Positive Clube Will Never Go Belly Up.” Hear from BSU students about how belly dancing gives them the courage to perform and accept themselves and their bodies.

I’m excited for you to read about all of our new stories. And remember, red is only the beginning.
