The world of art, movies, museums, music, and more is constantly evolving.
Every year as a child, I would always look forward to my birthday. My parents would let me skip school and would let me plan out our day. They would tell me that nothing (well, within reason) would be off limits: But almost every year, I would choose to go to the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis.
The Children’s Museum was a dream come true. It’s continually ranked the top children’s museum in the country, and for good reason. As a kid, I could easily spend all day exploring its five floors. But as I got older, I realized that the museum wasn’t just a place for fun. Rather, it was also a place to learn. Living only an hour away from Indianapolis, I was fortunate enough to grow up experiencing the city’s diverse museum scene.
When I arrived at college, I knew I wanted to study journalism, but I also realized how much I loved museums. I soon understood that I could combine these two passions and pursue a career in public relations in a museum.
I’ve been fortunate enough to intern in three museums now, and I have loved each experience. Getting to see the behind-the-scenes operations has only reaffirmed that working in a museum after graduation would be a great choice for me. But working at these institutions has also opened my eyes to new ways museums are attracting visitors.
This change in museums is just one transformation happening in the world of arts and entertainment. For example, many are beginning to use their art to bring attention to current issues in society.
Changes have also been happening in the world of films. It seems that the number of original movies and television shows is on the decline, while the number of big-budget remakes and sequels continues to increase.
Many, too, are making an effort to show a diverse set of actors and actresses on screen.
Another aspect of the arts and entertainment industry that has changed is the way we idolize celebrities––which can make it even more difficult to cope when an idol passes away.
Even the way we listen to music has changed, with more people opting for streaming services.
Change is inevitable in the world of arts and entertainment. What will remain constant in the midst of that change, however, is the importance of both industries in our society.
