Sad Monday Person Q&A
What made you decide to start being Sad Monday Person?
I suppose I always thought that Monday was a great day and seeing Friday get all the attention, it’s a little lop-sided. Why do people love Friday so much, but hate Monday? Can’t the Ball State campus just embrace Monday as their own?
Why Sad Monday Person?
I’m happy all the time, but really I’m sad because no one will like Monday with me.
What is your favorite part about being sad Monday person?
It actually really spices up my Monday. I just love when people are so happy about it. I’ll just run by and people are like, “hey, high five Sad Monday Person.” I’m just happy that I’m making their Monday a little bit better.
Do you have any funny or crazy experiences so far?
One time I went into the Student Center and I didn’t know I wasn’t allowed in there. So they forced me to leave the building.
Is your costume ever hot or annoying?
Yes, it’s one thing the costume does really well, but it actually makes cold weather feel better. I can walk around in the cold and be just fine. One more thing I have to complain about is the cape. The cape is wonderful and luxurious, but it always gets in my face in the wind.
How do you feel about Happy Friday Guy?
Well. Happy Friday guy is the bane of all existence! He goes around Ball State and says Friday is the best day, and that is simply not true. Monday is so good! We get to go back to school. We get to learn our favorite things. Can’t anyone see that Monday is a good day?
Is there anything you don’t like about being Sad Monday Person?
It takes a lot of time going out and being Sad Monday Person when I have something else to do.
What has been the reaction you’ve received from students?
I’ve got two main reactions. One of them is, “Why aren’t you more mean?” and the other one is “Hooray, it’s another man in a body suit!” I think the second one applies for most of the campus.
How do you get around?
I just walk around. I might get a scooter or rollerblades or something. I actually can’t rollerblade though, so I mean, it’d be kind of tough.
Are their any perks to being Sad Monday Person?
The main perk to being Sad Monday Person is I’m always neglected. I’m always in the dark. Happy Friday Guy gets all the attention. Ultimately, for my character, that is a bad thing because Friday is being idolized. Monday should be in the spotlight, but if I’m not in the spotlight, I can afford to make mistakes.
Are there any disadvantages?
Well, just being the tormented super villain and watching Happy Friday Guy get all the campus attention.
Are you worried the fame of being Sad Monday Person will get to your head?
It might, actually. What would happen if people started liking Monday more than Friday? I wouldn’t be a super villain anymore. Oh dear!
Have you ever considered revealing your identity?
I have considered it. When I leave, I probably will. I’m a sophomore right now so I have two more years to be Sad Monday Person. Actually, I might do it next year…
Everybody have a Happy Monday!

Happy Friday Guy Q&A
What is your favorite part about being Happy Friday Guy?
Honestly, the reception I get from the Ball State students and the feeling I get seeing the difference that it makes. The simple act of dressing up like an idiot going across campus puts a smile across people faces. It reminds you that you’re done with the week. It’s Friday.

Do you have any funny or crazy experiences?
Last spring, it was right after we had some snow and cold weather and it had just warmed up and there were lots of potholes everywhere and I nailed one. My scooter just crumbled under me. For the rest of the day I was running around carrying parts of my scooter. There was also the time I almost ran over President Joanne Gora. Took a corner real sharp and I learned my lesson.
What made you decide to start doing this?
I had an older sibling that went to Ball State back in the day and he was around for the first Happy Friday Guy, Scooter Bob. He would talk about how fun it was and it was this Ball State thing that was iconic. Everyone seemed to love it. I thought, “Where did this guy go?” I started looking around and asking around. A friend of mine just said, ‘Ya know, why don’t you just do it yourself?’ I said, “By gum, I think I will.”
Is your costume ever hot or annoying?
Yes, temperature is definitely an issue in this. Typically, once it gets warmer, I’m roasting and in the winter there’s a reason I’m blue and it’s not the suite.
Is there anything you don’t like about being Happy Friday Guy?
Yes, my schedule. It does bother me that every year I’ve had to try and fit my time being Happy Friday Guy in with my other classes.
Has the fame ever gotten to your head?
There have been little things here and there that I’ve had to learn along the way. Times when I’ve been a little bolder with the way I was being Happy Friday Guy. Usually, I’ve been pretty quick to tank the idea or some administrative person saying “Hey, don’t push it too hard.”
Are there any perks to being Happy Friday Guy?
Everyone knows you on campus and you know everyone on campus, the only difference is that they don’t always know who you really are. There’s also not only the reception I get from the student body, but everyone from the landscaping crew all the way up to President Gora. She knows who I am.
Are there any disadvantages?
Sweat. Smell. Things like that. There aren’t many disadvantages to it.
How do you feel about Sad Monday Person?
As the characters go, to me it’s humorous. It reminds me of “Megamind.” “Megamind” is a self-proclaimed villain and no one really pays attention to him. I stand for three things: have a happy Friday, have a safe weekend and go Ball State. Now I’ve got someone proclaiming to be my nemesis, sorrowfully reminding everybody that it’s Monday and you have a full week of work. I can’t say in my happy demeanor that I let it bother me so much.
