Vinyl records and CDs line the walls of Village Green Records where senior John Phalen has worked since mid-August.

The geography information systems and cartography major has been a fan of music since he was young. He started out watching MTV music videos as a child; then Phalen began finding music online, which he says really expanded his love for music.

“…I started finding all this music that I had never heard before [and] it have me a feeling of exclusivity,” he said. “Like I was one of the few who had heard this or that band, and I loved that feeling.”

Phalen recommends the album “More Than Any Other Day” by the band Ought because he says it is a “deeply refreshing listen.”

“When you hear it, it feels special,” he said. “The sound isn’t anything you haven’t heard before but it was ethereal. I listened to the whole album and it struck me.”

Ought is made up of guitarist and vocalist Tim Beeler, keyboard player Matt May, drum and violin player Tim Keen and bass player Ben Stidworthy. This is the band’s debut album with Constellation Records in Montreal, according to Ought’s biography on billboard.com. Released this year, “More Than Any Other Day,” reached No. 20 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart in America.
